Individual Therapy in NYC: Manhattan, Williamsburg and Online

We help people with…

Who comes for individual therapy

People come for individual therapy with anxiety, including panic and performance anxiety, with depression or low mood, or with trauma from childhood or from relationships. Others want to understand patterns that keep repeating in their relationships and family, or need help after someone close to them has died. Raising children and other family matters bring people in too.

Burnout, imposter syndrome and feeling stuck at work come up often with people in tech, finance and law, and therapy for high-performing professionals covers that work in more detail. Some adults with ADHD come because daily life has become hard to organize.

What happens in sessions

You meet one-to-one with the same psychotherapist, in an office or by video.

Psychodynamic therapy looks at how earlier experiences and relationships shape the patterns that show up in your life now. Dori Ellowitch and Kara Bloomgarden-Smoke both work this way, and Lola Noero trained in psychodynamic and psychoanalytic methods.

Psychodynamic work is often combined with other approaches. Somatic work, which Dori and Lola use, pays attention to what you notice in your body, such as tension or a racing heart, alongside your thoughts. Lola also trained in Internal Family Systems (IFS), which looks at the different parts of you, such as a harsh critic and a part that wants rest, and how they get along.

Psychodynamic therapy and other approaches

EMDR is a structured trauma therapy in which you recall a hard memory while following side-to-side eye movements or taps. We use it on its own or within ongoing therapy, and also as intensives over a few days.

Lola Noero, LCSW, is a Certified EMDR Therapist and EMDRIA Approved Consultant, and Dori is trained in EMDR. If a past trauma is what brings you here, you can work through it with either of them in EMDR therapy or in wider trauma therapy.

Where we see you

We have offices in Union Square/Gramercy and Chelsea in Manhattan, and two in Williamsburg, Brooklyn; the offices page lists the addresses. In Williamsburg, Lola sees clients at the Bedford L office, and Dori and Kara at the Domino Park office. All three also see clients by video, and online therapy in New York explains how it works.
