Who comes for grief therapy
People come to Kara after the death of someone close, or when a loss still shapes daily life long after it happened. Kara also works with parenting and family concerns, so she sees people whose grief comes alongside raising children or caring for family. People come in the first weeks after a loss and years later, and they do not need to be in crisis to book a call.
What happens in grief therapy
In sessions, Kara talks with you about the person who died, what the loss has changed and what feels hardest day to day. Her approach is psychodynamic, so she also looks at earlier relationships and experiences that shape how a loss is felt today.
Kara Bloomgarden-Smoke, LMSW listens closely to each person's story, because that story is central to how they make sense of a loss.
